Cheli No Se Cayó
Story Behind the Song
"Cheli No Se Cayó" (Cheli Didn't Fall) is for my sister Araceli, the one we have always called Cheli. It is the story of a woman who kept standing every time life tried to knock her down.
In Atlanta she worked hard and saved with one dream in front of her, a house of her own for her family. Then the man she had built that life with was suddenly taken from them, and the dream she had carried so carefully fell apart in an instant.
Left to raise her two daughters on her own, with no one to lean on, she made a brave choice. She went back to Mexico with almost nothing but her courage and her will. That is the heart of the chorus, that she did not fall. She rose.
In Michoacán she built her life again from the ground up. She kept her character, she kept her laughter, she kept her strength, and she passed that same spark on to her daughters, Cecilia and Helen.
She never sat in a university classroom, but she mastered the one thing that matters most, multiplying love. This song is my tribute to her strength and her faith, and to a mother who turned every hardship into something her daughters could stand on.
