Please get better, Daddy

Single Released: August 3, 2025

Story Behind the Song

"Please Get Better, Daddy" is written from the perspective of a child holding on to hope while someone they love most is unwell. It is one of the most deeply personal songs I have written, a small voice carrying family, love, and hope through a frightening time.

It was born from a child's innocent faith that a song could make a sick loved one well again, the belief that music is a kind of magic and that a wish set to melody can reach where nothing else can. I wanted to honor that faith exactly as it is, pure and unafraid, and to let the song become that wish said out loud.

So it holds the helplessness of waiting beside the stubborn hope that refuses to let go. It sits close to the grief and resilience that run through so much of my music, but here everything is seen through a child's eyes, where love is simple, fear is honest, and a single heartfelt plea feels powerful enough to heal. Writing it was its own form of prayer, and I am grateful I did.

Lyrics

Daddy, I see you sleeping there Machines and wires everywhere I wish that I could make it right Take your pain and hold it tight They say you’re sick, but I still believe That love can heal what we can’t see So I close my eyes and make a wish That you’ll come home to feel my kiss Please get better, Daddy, please I miss your laugh, your jokes, your peace I saved a hug just for today Don’t let this moment slip away You’re my hero, don’t you see? Please get better, come back to me Papa tries to hide his tears But I can feel his silent fears I told him songs can sometimes heal So this is one that’s true and real I don’t need toys or fancy things Just stories, hugs, and chicken wings I’ll be strong if you’ll be too Because no one loves like I love you Please get better, Daddy, please I miss your laugh, your jokes, your peace I saved a hug just for today Don’t let this moment slip away You’re my hero, don’t you see? Please get better, come back to me If I could fly, I’d fly so high Grab a star to light your sky I’d trade my games, I’d give my smile Just to have you home awhile Please get better, Daddy, please I’ll wait right here on bended knees With Papa close and heart in hand We’re your team, your biggest fans You’re my hero, always will be Please come back home… come back to me... Come back to me...
